We use masks as barriers,
the same veils as those before us.
Blue screens sow restlessness and
heighten the disparity
between now and then.
It’s the waiting, the distillation,
that creates separation.
Have we forgotten that blockades
erode naturally with time?
Ah, but time is marketed ‘scarce’
and waits for no one.
So give it to us, now, now, now,
our battering rams in tow.
“Show us who you really are!
Heave ho! Heave ho! Heave ho!”
We mistake politeness and reticence for fakery because we are a restless bunch, rushing what shouldn’t be rushed. We know that longevity isn’t proof of quality but just as easily forget that flimsy things are built with haste.
